2012 Cal Kickoff Highlights
12-1: 2012 12-OPEN CHAMPIONS!
In a tough rally by rally fight the 12-1 power team finished their undefeated tournament weekend with a 2-0 win over physical Tremors 12-1 Wolverines. Though their success is a team effort, Serah wanted to recognize the tremendous efforts of her two setters, Megan Yu and Sarah Blumefeld, who gave the team their first runs of points with their dominating jump serves and precision setting. The team has worked very hard and completely have earned this victory. Congrats to 2012 12-OPEN Champions our 12-1 Gold team
12-2: 9th Place Finish in 12 CLUB.
Our 12-2 Gold team fought hard throughout the weekend, falling short in their first three matches. On the second day they pulled together to finish 9th in their division.
13-1: 8th Place Gold Division Finish in a Tough Field of 14-1 Power Team
The 13-1 team lived up to their “hype” with a 6-1 record in their tournament weekend playing all 14-1 power teams. The team overcame some major hurtles by learning how to play to their opponent weakness which lead to two impressive and exciting three set victories against Rage 14-1 and SF Juniors 14-1 teams. They played their hearts out against and very tough #1 seed Vision 14-1 team forcing both games into double digits. Coach Ray was very proud and impressed with their performance at Cal Kickoff. We look forward to a very successful season.
13-2: Scrappy Defensive = WINS
The 13-2 show they were not to be underestimated with an unstoppable serve/receive and service game. They went undefeated day one, and only dropped two matches day two to 14-1 Power teams. Their solid passing, digging, and serving technique was only complemented by the offensive game they developed over the weekend.
13-3: Fight, Fight, Fight
Our 13-3 team are a squad had fight ans determination to spare. They work together to pull out their first win during bracket play to a tough 14-1 team. This team has nothing but room to grow. Great Job!
14-1: 7-1 Weekend!
Our 14-1 Gold team only dropped one match the entire weekend earning 19th place overall. Their tough three set loss to Club Solano (the 9th seed) hindered their ascension into the higher seeds. The team quickly recovered to finish the weekend with four straight wins. The team learned a great lesson this weekend in the importance of trying to win in two sets, or ‘Two and Focus” as coach Traci would say.
15-1: Trial by Fire in 16 OPEN
Our 15-1 Gold team took a big step up this weekend competing in 16 OPEN. They held their own during the tournament, pulling out a win over Acceleration 16-2 without Katie Regalia our right side power hitter. Even without Katie he team opted to participant at a higher level to prepare for power qualifiers, and their heart and passion shined through this tournament weekend as they never gave up and fought for every point within this tough field of mostly 16 power teams.
16-1: A Promising Start
The 16-1 team maintained an undefeated record up until their 15th place Silver bracket finish. The team has some notable performances from Casey Garret and her terminating right side attack, Ali Vidali unstoppable middle offense, and the defense and the leadership of our setter Rachel Lopez and Sierra Nelson. The 16-1 is a scrappy, no floor kind-of team that are always exciting to watch.
17-1: Going the Distance
The 17-1 Gold team proved that they were under ranked for weekend by jumping from a 46 seed start to a 18 seed finish, and finish day 1 with a 12th seed ranking. This small but power-punched team work well together beating mostly 18 power teams. They also took a big step forward in learning how to run their unstoppable quick set offense. The result is they finished the tournament by defeating Sliante 18-2 and sweeping pl Tornado 18-1 team to clench the Bronze Bracket with a 18th seed finish.
